Biography
![]() Stephen M. Di Giacomo, P.E., CEM EMA was founded in 1996 by Principal Engineer Stephen Mark Di Giacomo, P.E , CEM, a Board Certified Registered Professional Engineer licensed throughout MA, RI, PA, NJ and DE as well as a Nationally Certified Energy Manager. Mr. Di Giacomo has logged over twenty-five years of specialized Energy Engineering HVAC auditing, analysis, design, commissioning and facility operations experience with industrial, research, hospital, chemical, pharmaceutical and commercial facilities at both the site and corporate levels. He is also a guest lecturer to the senior class at Wentworth Institute of Technology on Energy Management Techniques. He began his engineering career with E. I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, Inc. as an Engineering Intern. At Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI Americas) Mr. Di Giacomo served as ICI's first full time Energy Engineer where he oversaw an annual energy budget in excess of $67 million. At Scallop Thermal Management, Inc. -A Royal Dutch / Shell Oil Group Company - Mr. Di Giacomo served as Operations Manager in Philadelphia, where he was responsible for the largest and most successful two-party Energy Services Contract in the country. At EUA Cogenex Corp., - An Eastern Utilities Associates subsidiary - Mr. Di Giacomo served as Principal Engineer to the Operations Division where he directed Operations, Energy Engineering and Monitoring & Verification activities for utility sponsored DSM Programs totaling over $30 million in capital investments. Cliental list included Polaroid, Harvard School of Public Health, New England Medical Center, Merck, Rowes Wharf, Lahey Clinic, Alpha Industries and le Meridien. He also provided engineering due diligence that resulted in the acquisition and purchase of over thirty Energy Conservation Shared Savings Contracts in the United States and Canada. While Mr. Di Giacomo was with R.G. Vanderweil Engineers, Inc., the Boston Edison Company selected his DSM Proposal as "one that would best provide Energy Conservation Services needed to reliably and cost effectively serve our Customers". The proposal was awarded a 67% share of the New Construction public offering for Energy Conservation Demand Side Management Services representing over $15 million in electric savings. Mr. Di Giacomo was President and Vice President of the Association of Energy Engineers, New England Chapter (1993 - 1995). He has hosted several meetings on Continuous Commissioning & Continuous Re-Commissioning, Indoor Air Quality, De-regulation of the Electric Utility Industry, CFC's and CO2 Demand-Controlled Ventilation Strategies. He is currently serving on the AEE Board of Directors for the twelfth consecutive year. Mr. Di Giacomo is an alumnus of the University of Delaware where he earned a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree. In 1987 he fully matriculated at Drexel University’s Graduate School of Business MBA program where he maintained a 3.75/4.00 until he left the program to join EUA Cogenex in Boston. More recently, Mr. Di Giacomo has earned IAQ ceu credits at the Harvard School of Public Health and has authored technical papers on CO2 based demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) in both Engineered Systems Magazine and the Journal of Energy Engineering. The Association of Energy Engineers New England Chapter selected Energy Management Associates for their “Project of the Year” award for “Excellence in Energy Engineering” for Energy Optimization work performed at the Harvard School of Public Health in 2000 and for Demand-Controlled Ventilation work performed at Hewlett Packard in 2004. |
